Musicians: Sara Han, clarinet; Doron Laznow, bassoon; Gabriel Kovach, horn; Benjamin Schmid, violin; Haeji Kim, viola; John Lee, cello; Marcus Elliott Gaved, double bass. Beethoven’s Septet in E-flat major, Op. 20, was one of the most popular of the composer’s works during his lifetime. A special evening devoted to the piece will begin with a lecture about Beethoven and the Septet by David Serkin Ludwig, Chair of Composition Studies at Curtis, followed by a complete performance of the work. This unique ensemble of winds and strings will feature the renowned Austrian violinist and Curtis alumnus Benjamin Schmid, Curtis alumnus and principal horn of the Phoenix Symphony Gabriel Kovach, and the incredible students of the school. This special evening at Woodmere launches a tour of the ensemble. “One of the world’s leading music academies” (BBC Culture), Philadelphia’s Curtis Institute of Music ensures an education of unparalleled quality for exceptionally gifted young musicians. Curtis on Tour is the school’s Nina von Maltzahn global touring initiative. Touring ensembles feature celebrated faculty and alumni artists performing alongside emerging artists from the school.
